Almost At The Summit

Almost At The Summit

It's been a great May to date with things happening in almost every corner of the country.

Things are not going to slow down over the next few weeks with the debut album by Zowie, Love Demolition, hitting the stores and the sophmore album by Ladyhawke called Anxiety out on 25 May and great chart placings by New Zealand artists as diverse as: Home Brew, Suzanne Prentice, The Black Seeds and Jamie McDell.

And there are still huge events to come like the Gore Golden Guitars, the Pacific Music Awards and NZ Music Month Seminar Summit in Auckland with the Music Managers Forum. Add to this music all over the country, at schools, libraries and venues everywhere there is still a whole lot of noise to be made and heard this May.

Looking ahead things don't slow down for the music loving community for as we know our local music and musicians are out there working hard all year round, with this in mind we shine a spotlight on a couple of the biggest online gig guides where you can list your shows or if a punter find out whats happening near to home. Add to these the rich and diverse sources of listings found in the countries; newspapers, magazines, street press, fanzines and radio stations and you soon realise there is just so much going on.

It is a great time to be a local music fan!

NZ Music Month - T Shirts

As we know no musical month of May would be complete without the iconic NZ Music Month t-shirts.

There are two styles of t-shirt available in 2012, the standard featuring the Target logo (voted one of New Zealand’s top five logos by readers of Idealog magazine) and the Limited Edition t-shirt.

Alongside the t-shirts is the ever popular and seasonally well-timed NZ Music Month Hoodie, also limited in numbers and featuring the target logo

This year’s t-shirts are available from all good local music stores online and off including: The Warehouse, JB Hi-Fi and Marbecks and online via amplifier.co.nz, mightyape.co.nz and nzmusicmonth.co.nz

So next time you're buying a local release you can grab your NZ Music Month T to go.

Where to go, what to do - Mukuna Gig Guide

Mukuna.co.nz is a Gig Guide, they list live music events for free, so its a great place to look to find out whats happening when you are heading out. Since they collect music related event listings for Bands, DJ's, Clubs, Venues and anything else we feel like from all over the country, radio stations, venues, promoters and artists use us to update their websites and you - automatically, and that has made it easier for everyone.

If you are wondering about the name, it comes from a genus of tropical vines, called mucuna. The seeds are considered good luck and the flowers are pollinated at night by bats. It grows everywhere and is hard to kill. So that's Mukuna with two U's and one A.
