Misstrum Marks Million Dollar Season

Misstrum Marks Million Dollar Season

Two-year-old filly Misstrum has continued a successful season for trainer Roger James and part-owners Haunui Bloodstock with an eye-catching victory in the $50,000 Listed Graeme Thomson Jewellers Great Northern Foal Stakes (1400m).

The victory marked a significant achievement for trainer Roger James as it took his domestic earnings for the season past the magical $1 million mark, the first time he has achieved the milestone.

Ridden by top jockey Leith Innes, Misstrum (Stratum x Malagra Miss) was slowly away from the gates but Innes was happy to settle the filly back in the early stages.

Finding racing room and improving mid-race, the daughter of Stratum unleashed a powerful sprint in the straight to get the better of fellow Karaka graduates About Square (Refuse to Bend) and Twilight Granita (Iffraaj) to win by a quarter-of-a-length.

The victory came at Misstrum's third career start. The filly ran fourth on debut at Ellerslie where she found the line well over 1200 metres, and she again finished off her race well at her last start at Hawke's Bay over 1400 metres when finishing third.

Bred by Dr P Storey, Misstrum was offered by Haunui Farm at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2011 Karaka Premier Sale. She becomes the 12th stakes winner for her sire Stratum.

Raced by Haunui Bloodstock in partnership with Maureen Duncan and Cathy Franich, Misstrum has now won over $32,000 from her three starts.

Misstrum has continued a run of success for Haunui Farm in Roger James' stable as they also share ownership in the tough James trained filly Full of Spirit (Flying Spur). The filly made a successful trip to Sydney this season where she was dominant in winning the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes.
