Fogg Supertourer Breaks Cover – Angus To Race This Weekend At Hampton Downs
Champion racing driver Angus Fogg, one of the country's best known domestic racing drivers, today started a new chapter in his long and varied motorsport career when he unveiled his brand new Holden Commodore V8 SuperTourer at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.
Fogg - the current New Zealand V8 Champion - has switched full-time to V8 SuperTourers and will run all of the endurance races in the second half of the inaugural season, as well as debuting the car this weekend at Hampton Downs.
The car - built in record time because Fogg was so keen to get out on the track with the country's top racing drivers - will be backed by key sponsor Hydraulink along with Property Tutors, Supercharge Batteries, Segedins Auto Spares, Moselle Panel & Paint, Porter Group, iSign it and PPG.
Fogg headed the car build himself, along with a support network of crew members, sponsors, friends, and even fellow competitors - the build taking only ten days to complete. “I want to thank everyone, it’s been an incredible two weeks” said Fogg. “Steve Noyer and the whole team from Moselle Panel & Paint have done an outstanding job – the car looks stunning. Thanks also to team members Brent Robb and Ross Simpson for tirelessly working with me on the car, Wayne Anderson from AV8 Motorsport for the use of his workshop and some valuable advice and assistance as well as friends Bruce Kett, Shane Johnson and Rick Van Swet. Thanks also to Warren Linn from iSign it who liveried the car for us yesterday as well, we’re thrilled with the result!”
The V8 SuperTourers have heralded a new beginning in New Zealand motorsport. They are the fastest ever V8 touring cars to race in a domestic New Zealand series and have proved a huge hit amongst drivers like four time Bathurst winner Greg Murphy, Jonny Reid, John McIntyre, Steve Richards, Fabian Coulthard, Kayne Scott, Andy Booth and Scott McLaughlin. Each of the three rounds held so far has averaged a gate of more than 10,000, proving the formula of equal cars, great drivers and 550 horsepower to play with is a winning one that is bringing the crowds back to the country's race tracks.
"Every top line racer wants to test themselves in equal machinery against the best drivers out there and that’s exactly what the V8 SuperTourers provide," added Angus. "I'm just stoked to be out there and have to say a big thank you to everyone who has made the whole thing possible, as well as those on the team who have worked tirelessly to get the new car on the grid. I'm revved up and ready to go."
"Having a guy like Angus on the grid is going to be huge for V8 SuperTourers," said series CEO Paul Radisich. "He has a legion of fans and a huge following everywhere he goes. He’s a great racer and a great character and it's going to be fascinating watch him get up to speed and mix it with the best there is in this country."
