Fogg and Gaunt shakedown V8ST cars & confirmed for Round 4

Fogg and Gaunt shakedown V8ST cars and are confirmed for Round 4

Two of New Zealand’s finest drivers officially joined the new V8 SuperTourer series today, when current NZV8 champion Angus Fogg and Tasman Motorsport’s Daniel Gaunt undertook successful shakedown testing of their new V8 SuperTourers at Hampton Downs ahead of this weekend’s fourth round.

Remarkably, Fogg’s car was built in ten days with an ‘all hands on deck’ approach by him and his mechanics. Tasman Motorsports had longer to build their car, but getting out in time for the final round of the sprint half of the championship still represents a considerable achievement.

It brings the size of the new field to 18 cars and with Fogg and Gaunt in the hot seats, confirms the V8 SuperTourer series is now the premier V8 class in New Zealand motorsport when it comes to driving talent as well as car lap times.

“I want to thank everyone, it’s been an incredible two weeks” said Fogg. The new car – a Holden V8ST - will be backed by Hydraulink along with Property Tutors, Supercharge Batteries, Segedins Auto Spares, Moselle Panel & Paint, Porter Group, iSign it and PPG.

Gaunt will be running a Ford Falcon V8ST for Tasman Motorsports Group, one of the biggest names in US motor sport and run by Kiwi Steve Horne. Gaunt tested Greg Murphy’s car earlier in the season and is delighted to be behind the wheel of the Tasman car.

“The car looks just amazing,” he said. “The attention to detail on the finishing of it is a real credit to the team. Everything has had an awful lot of TLC put into it and I’m really excited about getting out there on Friday to carry on with the initial set-up. It’s going to be a great weekend and I’m very, very happy to be a part of it.”

The new cars, drivers and teams hit the big time on Friday at 1pm at the North Waikato circuit when the SuperTourers will have their first two hour practice session of the weekend. Tickets and further information are available by going to www.v8st.co.nz or by searching for SuperTourers on the Eventfinder web site.
