An unforgettable afternoon of
performances and showcasing costumes, headgear, props and
masks designed for the stage. This unique and innovative
event for youth under 18 years of age promotes art
activities and artists.
NZ Body Art is proud to present the inaugural INSPIRE NZ, held on Sunday 16 September 2012 at Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna, Auckland. This theatrical event was designed to promote and expand knowledge of art creating new concepts of learning through participation of the arts taking place for the first time this year. This unique and innovative event is especially designed for youth 18 years and under. INSPIRE NZ will promote art and artists through awarding excellence in the fields of drama, theatre and art clubs, inspiring creativity for the whole family. The event is made to encourage the young art sector youth through distinctive and ground-breaking annual presentations of inter-schools and competitions focused on the development of design in theatre, stage, film and television. With the new annual event, INSPIRENZ wants to promote theatrical production to the youth of New Zealand. Young artists will get the opportunity to show their skills and go deeper into the New Zealand Theatrical Scene. Mem Bourke, event creator and director of the annual NZ Body Art Showcase, developed the idea for the event in order to support the arts and expand it to the 18 years of age and under youth.
We will be awarding excellence in the field of theatrical and visual art, thereby inspiring innovation and creativity for all members of the family to be involved in. There will be entertainment for the audience and participants throughout the day with live presentations, demonstrations and short shows, entertainment, trade stands and a day filled with fun. Permanent categories include contemporary/traditional masks, costume, stage props, head dress, body enhancement and adornment.
Competitions and workshops will be run at schools and clubs prior to the event in conjunction with Youthtown to ensure that the best of NZ talent are represented in a professional environment. Candidates will be selected through competitions during the year. Not only will these young artists have an opportunity to showcase the props, masks, headdresses and costume during the theatrical play they were created for, they now have a chance to gain recognition on the big stage. These theatrical pieces take hours of preparation and an award is only fitting for the hours of patience and dedication.
In addition to this, INSPIRE NZ will be providing an opportunity for youth learning photography and film skills to practice in a professional environment. NZ Body Art wants to assist youth in their journey in life by supporting their dreams and provides a platform for youth talent. With its multi disciplines, INSPIRE NZ supports and brings together other aspects of arts including music, dance, costume and other creative mediums used to create a theatrical production and bring together an inter-mixing of likeminded people of the arts community.
The winners of the INSPIRE NZ event will be invited to showcase their successful entries at The NZ Makeup Extravaganza formally known as The NZ Body Art Showcase. With the support of New Zealand’s largest film production company, Weta Workshop, we will continue to support young and upcoming artists through development and opportunities and the stage to showcase their work not only to New Zealand but we will also connect them globally. Through this event will be reaching out to young artists that are looking for the opportunity to try their creative skills not only in an artistic event but also one that reflects the heritage and culture of New Zealand.
This art event will be presented at the Bruce Mason Centre on the magnificent stage providing children a professional experience to INSPIRE them.
We are looking forward to a day of creativity and adventure! Visit our homepage www.nzbaa.co.nz and find us on Facebook for more information.
