Nurturing the Artistic Spirit of Raglan Whaingaroa
The Old School Arts Centre in Raglan’s Stewart Street is a dynamic venue where people can find inspiration, learn and explore creative ideas. To further support our community in the Arts, the Arts Centre is now open on Saturdays between 10am and 2 pm. Drop in to The Old School Arts Centre on a Saturday and meet newly appointed Media & Gallery Services Assistant, Susan Guenther. She'll be able to let you know about what’s on, what’s coming up, and opportunities for you to participate. Susan has a degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Printmaking and Cultural Theory, recently gaining further skills in Graphic Arts.
Only a 5 minute walk from the main shopping area of Raglan, the 19th century heritage building has been a focus for the district as a learning and activities centre since it was built in 1883. Today, it continues that tradition as a thriving hub for the arts.
Hosting a busy programme of workshops, short courses, and a flourishing school holiday programme, the Old School is an industrious place. Talented and creative tutors encourage budding artists to experiment. Professional artists use the facilities to refine skills and expand the boundaries of their practice. The Community Gallery regularly showcases interesting exhibitions from our local artists. And, the Arts Centre also screens movies at least once a month.
You can also learn about our local art scene by becoming interactive online. Visit our website www.raglanartscentre.co.nz and click on our Facebook link for regularly updated information.
The Old School Arts Centre is a registered charity and we appreciate the help of our sponsors to keep up the good work. If you’d like to become a member and join a network of people supporting this productive place contact us at info@raglanartscentre.co.nz.
The office is open 3 days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 10am - 2pm.
