Make some noise with Sounds Amazing

Did you know that about 100 muscles must all work together so we can say this one sentence?

Uncover more fascinating facts about sound, the science behind making it, and have a go at playing some unconventional instruments these July holidays in Sounds Amazing our interactive new exhibition dedicated to the art of sound.

Sounds Amazing – Discover the Science of Sound engages hands, eyes and ears. How musicians get notes from string, wind or percussion instruments is revealed by strumming giant harps, striking gamelans, playing slap-a-phone (bongo pipes), or tickling the ivories of a giant keyboard.

The exhibition is highly engaging for children and enables them to explore concepts relating to the science of sound including sound production and how sound travels. Children and adults enjoy playing with the weird and wonderful instruments in this fun and hands-on exhibition.

“As New Zealand’s leading Arts and Cultural centre for children and families, Capital E has always delivered programmes encouraging young people to compose and produce their own music,” says Capital E Director Stuart Grant. “Sounds Amazing offers the chance to explore and understand the building blocks of sound, which can be arranged and assembled to create that music. I’m thrilled that we can bring science and art together in this fun, creative and highly hands-on experience”.

Sounds Amazing – Discover the Science of Sound answers in-depth questions about sound in an exciting, interactive way. On during the July school holidays at Capital E, Saturday 30 June until Saturday 14 July, from 10am – 4pm, (no shows Sun).
