Emirates Team NZ update - second overall for the season

Emirates Team New Zealand has ended the inaugural season of the America’s Cup World Series in second place overall.

Battling as Series of mishaps at the final Newport regatta and an indifferent performance in the triple points fleet race the team held its place on the leaderboard.

But it was a disappointing end to the Newport regatta. After injuries to two members of the front-line AC45 sailing crew, a collision with a mark boat and a damaging capsize, the team yesterday looked like it was coming right.

With a third and a first in the two fleet races held, the team was feeling more confident. But the performance today, not helped by another broken dagger board lifting pole, was indifferent.

Skipper Dean Barker said: “We had our opportunites but did not capitalise on them. We have no excuses. We did not do well enough on the day.”
