New Zealand Plays Host To The Red Bull BC One Asia Pacific Qualifier – The World’s Leading B-Boy Break Dancing Competition
Auckland’s Vector Arena, 1 September 2012
The most globally recognized B-Boy break dancing competition, Red Bull BC One, is coming to New Zealand for the first time ever.
B-Boy fever will soon grip the nation with today’s announcement that the Red Bull BC One Asia Pacific Qualifier is to be held at Vector Arena on Saturday 1st September 2012. Tickets go on sale July 22 via Ticketmaster and with tickets limited to 3,000 it will sure to be a sell-out crowd.
New Zealand is one of just six countries chosen to host a World Qualifier event. The competition will see 16 B-Boys compete head-to-head in knockout battles, trying to break their way into the Red Bull BC One World Final held in Rio de Janeiro in December, where the world’s best B-Boy will be chosen.
RAHZEL, member of “The Roots” and the undisputed “Godfather of Noyse” will host the NZ qualifier and will surely mesmerize the audience with his unique and notorious beat boxing talent as he has done in previous Red Bull BC One events. He believes Red Bull BC One has helped elevate the element of B-Boying to a level never imagined.
“Being the original host of this event I can only expect greatness. The crème de la crème, the worlds greatest competing on the world's supreme B-Boy stage - the RED BULL BC ONE!” says RAHZEL.
The B-Boys taking part in the qualifiers have won one of 60 cyphers that have been held in 52 countries around the globe and will be pushed to reach new limits by the beats and ryhthms of DJ Mar Ski of the Mighty Zulu Kingz.
“This is a once in a life time experience for any B-Boy. No doubt it will be tremendous” says DJ Mar Ski.
Auckland Cypher winner Akorn (Aron Mahuika) will represent New Zealand in the Asia Pacific Qualifier along with Wellington’s Cypher champion Grub D (David McCavitt). Fellow competitors are from Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, South Asia, Laos and Vietnam.
Grub-D, who was also last year’s NZ Red Bull BC One representative, is excited to earn another spot this year. “I was lucky enough to get into the top 16 last year at the qualifiers and I’ve been working really hard to improve my moves. I’m so amped”.
Tickets to this all-ages event are available from Ticketmaster from July 22 with ticket prices starting from only $35 + booking fee. Doors open at 6pm with the competition kicking off at 7.30pm.
