BRISBANE — IC Central today named Trident High School student Shayna Morton as regional winner and National Champion in the New Zealand round of the 2012 Worldwide Competition on Microsoft Office. Shayna, a Year 13 student, has won the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the Worldwide Championship on Microsoft Office to be held at the prestigious Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada later this month when national champions from an expected 70 countries will compete for the coveted title of Microsoft Office World Champion.
“I knew that my score and time were going to be competitive – I’ve really worked hard to because I know that having a Microsoft Office Specialist certification will help me in my career” said Shayna. “I honestly didn’t expect to win and to represent New Zealand at the World Championships in Las Vegas is an amazing honour and so exciting.”
Trident High Head of ICT Teacher Lynda Frisby is delighted by the achievements of her students. “We offer these certifications at Trident because we want our students to have an internationally recognised qualification. These certifications engage and motivate our students to achieve their very best” she said. “To provide the National Champion two years in a row is just incredible. I am so proud of Shayna and all the students who participated.”
The annual Microsoft Office competition is open to schools who offer their students the opportunity to study for the Microsoft Office Specialist Certifications in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
This year the competition attracted more than 550,000 entries from students in over 70 countries. “We congratulate Shayna, Trident high School and all the students who participated in this year’s competition” said Richard Gordon, Managing Director at IC Central, “Each year the competition gets tougher as more administrators, teachers, parents and students realise the value of obtaining globally recognised qualifications. The New Zealand Department of Education has already committed to make participation in the 2013 Worldwide Competition available to more students through an innovative program being run in association with Microsoft New Zealand so we expect the competition to get even more intense.”
