CRC Speedshow, by the numbers
This year’s CRC Speedshow, which opens at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland on Saturday morning, features so many cars, motorcycles, people, performance parts, race equipment and other items that it can get a little bewildering to take them all in.
The CRC Speedshow team has put together the following numerical guide to this year’s sold-out show to help automotive and motorsport fans of all ages prepare for another action-packed weekend.
§ The one, the only Yamaha Vity 125cc scooter to be won by any CRC Speedshow visitor who goes to the TMG Yamaha display and fills in an entry form.
§ Up for grabs, two GoPro cameras, at what is sure to be a very loud GoPro ‘shout-out’ promotion with the team from Racetech Racing Supplies.
§ Three marques are bringing their fun roadsters to the show – Fraser Cars, Venom Roadsters and Exocet.
§ Three is also the number of highly-regarded international awards won by ‘Speed 33’, the absolutely stunning 1933 Ford cabriolet hot rod built by Tauranga’s Rods by Reid on its debut trip to the US earlier this year.
§ And the final significant three – it’s the number of performances each day in the Ezybuy Car Auctions live action arena – 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
§ There are five hot laps in the mighty fine Dodge Viper ACR to be won; see the team at Chrysler SRT for details.
§ Six is the number of years Speedshow has been running and also the number of new motorbike brands represented this year. Expect the latest from Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Husqvarna, Suzuki, Victory and Yamaha.
§ Six is also the total number of slot cars which can be raced on the massive Scalextric race track. Check it out!
§ A seven day luxury motor home holiday is on offer from the guys at OneDryWash; all purchasers are automatically entered in this great prize draw.
§ Lots of V8s again this year – NZV8s, V8SuperTourers and hordes of V8-powered machinery!
§ Nine o’clock is the time that the show opens both Saturday and Sunday. Remember, tickets are only available at the gate.
§ Twelve new car marques – BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Holden, Honda, HSV, Mazda, Nissan, Suzuki and Volvo.
§ It’s safe to say that at 13 metres in length, the Jetblack concept car is the longest vehicle on display this year.
§ Twenty-seven centimetres is the world record for the tightest parallel park set by Drive Stunt’s Peter Bell last year; he’s demonstrating his incredible stunt driving abilities in the arena over the weekend.
§ Number 47 graces the door of the championship-winning Ford V8SuperTourer of star driver John McIntyre.
§ Fifty years of national hot rod shows are being celebrated by the New Zealand Hot Rod Association at this year’s show.
§ The University of Auckland Formula SAE Team is offering 52 prizes in their fund-raising raffle to help students compete in Australasian single seater race car challenge.
§ Sixty genuine leather Harley-Davidson jackets create a highly desirable prize draw; visit the Harley-Davidson stand to find out how to enter.
§ Seventy-one stunning hot rods and custom vehicles are on show in the NZHRA 50th anniversary hot rod show.
§ Seventy-two inches marks the size of the wrap-around display in the Alienware Pod where it’s free to try the world’s most powerful gaming systems on Dell’s Area 51 desktop system.
§ 150 cool cars are expected to rumble into the ASB Showgrounds in the Meguiar’s Car Crazy charity cruise around 11am on Sunday.
§ Are there 200, 300 or more vehicles at this year’s show? To be honest, there are too many to count!
§ A speed of 420.429 km/h was the new world record for an open class motorcycle set Richard Assen on the A-Ward Attachments’ Suzuki Hayabusa on the Bonneville Salt Flats last September. See the team and their striking red machine at the show.
§ Five hundred $150 gift vouchers are on offer from Wyndham Resort Vacations.
§ The Honda CBR600 is the machine of choice for stunt rider extraordinaire Nic Kroeze.
§ Worth $695, the BMW driver training day on offer at the Jerry Clayton BMW display is going to make someone really happy.
§ 800 horsepower of thrust has to be kept under control by Go Fast Jet Pack pilot Nick Macomber as he flies around the Ezybuy Car Auctions live action arena twice over the weekend.
§ 1,000 mph is the ultimate goal for Jetblack, the New Zealand-led world land speed record challenger.
§ It’s worth $1,400 and all you have to do is visit the Ford stand to go in the draw to win a Sony XAV701BT 7 inch panel monitor car audio system.
§ 1959 is the year that one particularly special race car - the Cornis-Offenhauser Indy car - was built in California. It’s now owned by an Auckland, New Zealand collector after being restored by accomplished American sprint car driver Lynn Paxton.
§ Heading for 10,000, the number of people who like CRC Speedshow on Facebook. Cheers!
§ Can we top the nearly 25,000 people who visited CRC Speedshow in 2011? Sure we can!
§ At $430,000, the limited edition Aston Martin DBS Carbon Edition is the second most expensive new car at this year’s show.
§ With its seductive combination of performance, style and exclusivity, the new Bentley Continental GTC (convertible) is the most expensive new car on show this year, at a recommended retail of $462,000.
§ Total value of all the cars at the 2012 CRC Speedshow? Well, to borrow a well-known phrase, they’re priceless!
“After that incredible list of significant numbers,” says CRC Speedshow promoter Keith Sharp, “all you really need to know is that the show is on for just two days – this weekend, 21 and 22 July, at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds. Clearly there’s a lot to see and do, so we look forward to seeing you there!”
Tickets are available at the gate with news and all show details available on the website, www.speedshow.co.nz, or follow the show on Facebook and Twitter.
