NEW zealand fashionweek designer announcement 2012

Once again, despite an extremely challenging domestic and international retail fashion climate, New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) has attracted a strong list of designers to show at this year’s event.

Across four days, from Tuesday 4 September 2012, more than 40 talented New Zealand and international fashion designers will showcase their Autumn/Winter 2013 collections to the world.

The strong line-up confirms that NZFW continues to provide a fantastic platform for designers and delivers significant value and opportunities to their brands and businesses.

NZFW Managing Director Pieter Stewart is excited to have confirmed such a stronglist of designers and commented that after twelve years at the helm of such a diverse event, one of its defining characteristics is the ever-changing line up of designers each year.

WHO IS SHOWING

Following the announcement of Australian Designer Charlie Brown, who has established a strong following in New Zealand, some of our country’s leading designers have confirmed they will show at NZFW 2012.

Andrea Moore, Annah Stretton, Brady, Company of Strangers, Cybele, Hailwood, Huffer, Ingrid Starnes, Juliette Hogan, Liam, Ruby, Sable and Minx, Stolen Girlfriends Club, Trelise Cooper, Twenty-Seven Names and Zambesi are all confirmed.

Moving on from her outstanding debut in the 2011 New Generation show, Wellington designer Deryn Schmidt will this year showcase another of her exquisitely tailored collections, in her first solo NZFW show. Schmidt received praises for her ‘Joy of Life’ collection in 2011 and will be one to watch again this year.

Another talented design team, back for their second year after debuting in the 2011Miromoda Show, are Auckland’s Dmonic Intent, three talented sisters who will show their collection as New Generation designers and again as part of the Miromoda platform.

Dmonic Intent will be joined by other Auckland designers Daniel K and Silence Was…, and Tauranga designer Arielle Mermin in the New Generation Show, which offers emerging talent with a platform on which to showcase their first full NZFW collection. NZFW nurtures this new talent in their lead up to their Fashion Week debut, as well as providing a business boot-camp for the selected designers.

A highlight on the NZFW schedule is the group showcase of the annual Miromoda platform. The Miromoda Fashion Design Competition invites and encourages all designers who identify as Mãori to enter and showcase their talents, with the best designers given the opportunity to show at NZFW.

This year the Miromoda awards covered four categories, Emerging Designers, AvantGarde, the Established Designer category and Tee Shirts. Designers who won their place on the NZFW catwalk are:

Monique Lynch (Auckland), Poto Morgan (Ngaruawahia), Dmonic Intent (Auckland), Marsh Ranginui (Whanganui), Shona Tawhiao (Auckland), Christopher Woods-Huia (Auckland), Koia Gray (Wainuiomata), Hohepa Thompson (Victoria University Wellington), Edington (Wainuiomata High School), Surface Too Deep - Sarah Jane & Ester (Wellington) and Pia Boutique - Pia Naera (Auckland).

Another show that always draws lots of attention is the New Zealand Weddings Magazine Collections. This show brings together some of the most talented designers working in this ever-competitive market, with New Zealand designers consistently proving their credentials.

Featuring in this year’s New Zealand Weddings Magazine show is; A La Robe, Alma J, Anna Schimmel, Crane Brothers, John Zimmermann, Michelle Yvette, Sera Lilly and Vinka Design.

With the full list of designers close to being confirmed, and with an exciting line-up of brands on board for the exhibition showcase including Diamond Galleria, Chamilia and MyDeerFox, the next job for the Fashion Week team is to put together what will be a very busy schedule.

And with a strong contingent of international and local media, buyers and fashion lovers all counting down the weeks to NZFW 2012, this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the busiest yet!
