Eminent theologian to deliver
lectures in Wellington next week
American theologian Professor William Cavanaugh is delivering four public lectures in Wellington next week.
Professor Cavanaugh is the 2012 St John’s Visiting Scholar in Religion at Victoria University. He is a Senior Research Professor at the Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology at DePaul University in Chicago. He has published extensively on politics and theology, consumerism and global economics, and on torture, terrorism and violence.
The internationally respected writer and speaker will deliver four free hour-long public lectures in Wellington on topical issues:
The Myth of Religious Violence: Does Religion
Cause Violence? Monday 30 July: 6pm, Council Chambers,
Hunter Building, Kelburn Parade
The Myth of the Free
Market: The Unfreedom of the Free Market. Tuesday 31 July:
6pm, Council Chambers, Hunter Building, Kelburn Parade.
The Myth of Prosperity: The Economy of Fantasy and the
Current Global Financial Crisis. Wednesday 1 August: 12pm,
RHLT2, Rutherford House, Thorndon.
The Myth of
Consumerism: Christianity and Consumerism. Thursday 2
August: 6pm, Council Chambers, Hunter Building, Kelburn
Parade.
