Festival tickets selling fast
With
tickets to the Nelson Arts Festival getting snapped up and
more shows likely to be sold out before the festival opens
on 12 October, people are being encouraged to book tickets
sooner rather than later.
Festival Director Sophie Kelly says shows are proving popular across the board, with a number of shows already sold out. “People should avoid buying their festival tickets at the last minute or they may be disappointed.”
Sophie encourages festival goers to book something a little different than they would normally choose to see. “The arts festival is a chance to experience shows that don’t usually come to Nelson. People should stretch themselves and take away something to think about and talk about for weeks after.”
To book your tickets, visit www.nelsonartsfestival.co.nz or phone Everyman Records, 03 548 3083.
Technical Director’s pick
Our Technical
Director, Antony Hodgson is making this week’s pick. His
choice is Electric Wire Hustle Family and here is
what he had to say about it…
‘Right now my
head is full of technical details and I tend to lose sight
of the amazing talent of the people about to descend on our
town. This morning at my keyboard I have been listening to
Electric Wire Hustle who do some mighty cool things with
music indeed. It is the kind of music that makes you sit up
and listen to the detail of it. There are some beautiful
melodies and some super odd sampled sounds mixed into a
thick soundscape. To hear/see them live will be something
special.Add to that their heritage and the gifts they were
each given by their parents and we're in for a
truthbumps/goosebumps night.’
Electric
Wire Hustle Family are playing in the TSB Bank Mainstage on
Wed 24 Oct. Head in to Everyman on Hardy Street to get your
tickets or visit www.nelsonartsfestival.co.nz.
On the Road
This weeks On the Road
takes a slightly different track. We look back down the
road to when Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen
performed at the 2007 Nelson Arts Festival and what reviewer
Peter Gibbs from the Nelson Mail had to say about
it…
‘This was a show like none you've
seen before. It included music which was at the same time
eerie, lugubrious and joyous. It also included monologues
and banter, with a predilection for melodrama and slapstick
comedy…
…Musically, the group was tight and
well disciplined. Although their object matter roamed so
widely through the worst possible taste, their gentle self
mockery and tight harmony kept the audience with them from
the start, clapping, cheering and even la-la-la-ing
along…
…There were frequent excursions into
the audience, during which more than one chair was broken,
but nothing could stand in the way of the full-blooded
adoration. I've never heard such enthusiastic crowd
participation.’
