Fast5 Ferns Team Announcement

Fast5 Ferns Team Announcement

26 September 2012:

National Selectors have today confirmed the Fast5 Ferns team to compete in the INF Fast5 Netball World Series to be held at Vector Arena, Auckland from November 9-11.

The Fast5 Ferns team to compete in the INF Fast5 Netball World Series is:
Shooters: Maria Tutaia, Irene van Dyk, Anna Thompson
Midcourt: Laura Langman, Kayla Cullen, Bailey Mes
Defence: Leana de Bruin, Anna Harrison, Casey Williams, Katrina Grant

Fast5 Ferns coach Waimarama Taumaunu said the National selectors had some tough decisions to make with the new format of the game allowing for just ten players in a team.
“With the advent of no wing defence or wing attack, player versatility was paramount”, she said.

“We were also aware a team of 10 could not carry two specialist holding shooters, it meant a tough choice, but we have opted for our most experienced goal shoot - Irene van Dyk.

The Fast5 Ferns will wear a new match kit at the INF Fast5 Netball World Series designed especially by Canterbury of New Zealand.

Karyn Larsen, Head Designer for Canterbury of New Zealand said “Fast, Fab, funky, feminine and fun are the inspirational words that came to mind when designing the new Fast5 uniform.

The skort combines the heritage of the gym frock with its inverted pleats but has the active-fashion forward influence of bright pink flashes in the pleats and equally bright knicks.

The singlet has mesh panelling with a feminine floral pink print design or the alternate strip of bright bold vertical stripes. This strip is anything but the norm and reflects the vibrant new Fast five game”.

Notes to the editor:
• Fast5 matches consist of four six minute quarters.
• Each team consists of ten players with a maximum of five on court at anytime
• Teams may use unlimited substitutions via the substitution box adjacent their team bench at intervals or during play.
• There are three scoring areas in the Fast5 form of the game with areas for one, two and three goal points.
• Both sides get a Powerplay quarter with their goal points for that quarter being doubled.
• Scoring for Fast5 will be signalled by the officiating umpire the following way…
• One hand raised in the air for one goal point, two hands in the air for two goal points and arms crossed for three goal points or what will be known as a super goal.
• Some of the more traditional Netball rules remain with contact, obstruction, stepping, held ball and offside being used for Fast5.

Tickets are available via Ticketmaster and you can keep up to date at www.Fast5Netball.co.nz
