Musical heavyweights forfeit the stage for pavement

No power cords or speakers required, The New Zealand Music Foundation is set to give Auckland commuters a busking experience like no other.

Members of Spoilers of Utopia, headed up by John Bell and featuring Don McGlashan will be treating early morning work--goers in the central city, to some musical entertainment alongside their much-- needed double shot flat white.

No. 1 Queen Street will be hosting the brass ensemble on Tuesday the 9th of October from 8am. Don McGlashan is a founding trustee of the New Zealand Music Foundation charitable trust, which was established in March this year.

He says the busking event is a show of support for the organisation and to help raise awareness of what it stands for. “The Foundation has been set up to highlight the power music has to heal and rehabilitate people, no matter what their situation is. It’s a privilege to be involved with an organisation that is helping to enrich the lives of Kiwis through music,” says McGlashan.

“This busking event is not only about bringing music to the early morning commuters but also about creating awareness around the incredible work the Foundation is doing for our community.”

The Foundation offers grants to entities that use music to improve the lives of New Zealanders in need. The New Zealand Music Foundation will be announcing its first round of grants following the busking session. Foundation chairman Campbell Smith says “we are delighted with the response to the establishment of the Foundation and the support we have received from the music industry and the wider community.
