North Otago has the Nation’s Biggest Boot

North Otago has the Nation’s Biggest Boot

New Zealand’s provincial rugby unions were represented by fans in Christchurch today, as they lined up next to the super-sized all black Boeing 777-300, to compete in New Zealand’s Biggest Boot.

Billy Guyton from North Otago took out the competition with a kick of 59.9 metres. Second place went to Pera Gibbs from Otago with Tasman’s Chad Lowrie coming in third place.

The Biggest Boot event was held to celebrate Air New Zealand’s sponsorship of provincial rugby and the All Blacks. All Blacks halfbacks Aaron Smith and Piri Weepu, alongside Wyatt Crockett joined around 400 rugby fans and a planeload of Air New Zealand staff who flew from Auckland onboard the all black 777-300, on its first ever visit to Christchurch.

Representatives from the 26 provincial rugby unions went boot to boot in a knock-out competition attempting to kick the length of the 73m aircraft.

While Biggest Boot Guyton fell short of the 73 metres he takes out the grand prize of a trip for two to see the All Blacks take on England in November’s Air New Zealand European Tour.

The trip for two includes tickets to the test match against England at Twickenham, three nights accommodation in London and an opportunity to attend the All Blacks Captains’ Training Run at Twickenham the day before the big game in December.
