Multi-award-winning actress
Julie Walters leads the cast in the National Theatre
Live’s second offering of the 2012-2013 season, The Last of the
Haussmans.
The Last of the
Haussmans will play in select cinemas around New Zealand
for a limited season from 8 November to 19
November.
Directed by Howard Davies, Stephen
Beresford’s new play features Royal Shakespeare Company
and Royal National Theatre actor Rory Kinnear, as well as
The Queen’s Helen McCrory.
The Last of the
Haussmans examines the fate of the revolutionary
generation and offers a funny, touching and at times savage
portrait of a family full of longing that is losing its
grip.
Anarchic and feisty high society drop-out Judy
Haussman (Walters) remains in spirit with the Ashrams of the
1960s while holding court in her dilapidated Art Deco house
on the Devon Coast. After an operation, she’s joined by
wayward offspring Nick (Kinnear) and Libby (McCrory),
sharp-eyed granddaughter Summer, local doctor Peter, and
Daniel, a troubled teenager who makes use of the family’s
crumbling swimming pool. Together they share a few
sweltering months as they alternately cling to and flee this
louche and chaotic world of all-day drinking, infatuations,
long-held resentments, free love and failure.
The cast
also includes Taron Egerton, Isabella Laughland and Matthew
Marsh. The designer is Vicki Mortimer, with lighting by Mark
Henderson, sound by Christopher Shutt and projection design
by Jon Driscoll.
The Last of the Haussmans runs
at approximately 2 hours 40 minutes including an
interval.
