Casting Hothouse
Coming To Auckland
Next month actors will get a rare opportunity to work with top casting directors from New Zealand, Australia and the United States at a three-day event being held by Actors Equity in Auckland.
CBS Television’s vice president of casting, Matt Skrobalak, and feature film casting director Margery Simkin will fly in from the United States to host workshops at the Casting Hothouse. Skrobalak has cast hit TV shows including The Good Wife and NCIS. Simkin has cast blockbuster films such as Hope Springs and Avatar.
The Casting Hothouse will give New Zealand actors an opportunity to hone their acting, accent and auditioning skills during workshops and master classes with industry experts. The event has received generous support from the New Zealand Film Commission and Showcast.
The 40 actors who are selected to take part in the Casting Hothouse will also get the chance to work with Nikki Barrett of Nikki Barrett Casting, Australia, and Mike Dwyer of Barefoot Casting. Barrett has cast feature films such as The Great Gatsby and The Sapphires and Dwyer has cast productions including A Song of Good and The Devil’s Rock.
The Casting Hothouse is not designed to
assist New Zealand actors leave permanently. It is an
opportunity to give New Zealand actors the skills and
confidence they need to tackle the casting experience and
build long lasting careers.
The Casting Hothouse will
take place at the Q Theatre from Tuesday, November 20, to
Thursday, November 22.
