Final free Friday at 5:15 concert from NZSM

Final free Friday at 5:15 concert from NZSM

Tonight's free concert in the Ilott Theatre, Wellington Town Hall, will be the fifth and final in the 2012 Friday at 5:15 series presented by Te Koki New Zealand School of Music.

Old, New, Borrowed, Blue features members of the NZSM's Jazz Programme and, like the title, the quartet and the works they'll play are diverse.

Paul Dyne (bass) leads the quartet – he has been teaching at the School (in all its previous incarnations) since 1989.
Ashton Sellars (guitar) on the other hand, is in his third year of a Bachelor's degree in Jazz performance.
Tim Hopkins (saxophone) completed his MMA at NZSM last year and his CD 'Seven' was one of the finalists in last years Tui Awards for Best Jazz album of the year.
John Rae (drums) arrived in Wellington from Scotland via Hawkes Bay, originally as the Jack Richards/Creative New Zealand Composer in Residence at NZSM. He and Tim are now Artists Teachers at the Mt Cook Campus.

The quartet will play a wide range of works tonight: from standards like Fats Waller's Ain't Misbehavin' through to originals from Tim Hopkins, so new the ink is barely dry.

The Friday at 5:15 concerts have become a much anticipated and enjoyed way of finishing a working week. They have allowed NZSM to showcase the expertise and fantastic talent that resides in our staff and senior students. With the generous support of the Wellington City Council we have been able to present these 'downtown' in the excellent acoustic environment of the Ilott Theatre. Doors are open from about 5pm – refreshments are available for sale in the foyer before the concert.

Join us as we farewell the 2012 academic year in style!
