Hell Wellington Firebirds bolstered by Twenty20 Specialists

Cricket Wellington has confirmed that Australian speedster Shaun Tait and allrounder Cameron Borgas will join the Hell Wellington Firebirds for their opening two Friday night HRV Cup Twenty20 matches on 9 and 16 November, at Westpac Stadium.

Tait, a short-form cricket specialist these days and a highly experienced Twenty20 bowler, is known to many fans for his electric pace, having bowled the second fastest delivery ever recorded, a 161.1kph thunderbolt against England at Lords in 2010.

Following the 2011 World Cup, Tait retired from international cricket and has been a regular Twenty20 player in various teams and competitions around the world, including the Big Bash League in Australia, and for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

Borgas is an experienced first-class cricketer from South Australia, whom has signed with the Sydney Thunder for this season’s Big Bash League.

Cricket Wellington Chief Executive Peter Clinton said he was very pleased with the pair’s signing.

“The addition of two experienced T20 specialists in Shaun and Cameron will add significant value to the Hell Wellington Firebirds for these two important matches. Express bowlers like Shaun only become available very rarely, while a seasoned T20 player like Cameron will enhance the balance and composure of the side”

The two Friday night games are a great early-season opportunity for Wellington fans to see some exciting cricket action, and the presence of the two imports will add considerably to what will be an historic match.

“The Hell Wellington Firebirds has nothing short of an All Stars look about it, with Tait and Borgas joining the likes of Ryder, Gillespie, McKay, Elliott, Woodcock, and Ronchi. The team is primed and ready, and we’re looking for some great local support to really get the HRV Cup season underway in style” said Clinton.
