International Rodeo THIS WEEK!

Monday 19 November 2012

Hamilton’s International Rodeo THIS SATURDAY!

Head Shaving for CanTeen Fundraiser

The International Rodeo arrives in Hamilton THIS week hot from a successful Dunedin show that saw ‘bucking bulls, country music and horse trickery attract 7500 people to the event’ (www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/235408/rodeo-deemed-success / International Rodeo - slideshow).

Rodeo production manager Fred Doherty said that it was a night of outrageous fun and organisers are looking forward to seeing the additional ‘exclusive to Hamilton’ performers that include local stunt rider Katie McVean, Rotorua based NZ’s Got Talent TV stars Dogmatic and Chelsea Marriner, the Brendon Ham Band and Everett Norris, who will bravely shave off his hair off to raise money for CanTeen.

Everett, age 18 from Hamilton, says he believes it’s a great way to support young people living with cancer. “I will be cutting all of my hair off and donating it so it can be made into wigs. I know my mother will miss my curly locks but it will be worth it, so make a donation now (www.canfans.org.nz) because every dollar goes to making a big difference to young people and their families living with cancer– many of whom aren’t as lucky as I’ve been.” 16 year old CanTeen Waikato Branch President Noah Lockett-Turton said that CanTeen helps young people living with cancer live life to its fullest and that they were excited to take part in Saturday’s event.

About CanTeen

CanTeen is the only New Zealand organisation dedicated to supporting young people aged 13 - 24 living with cancer as a patient, sibling or bereaved sibling. CanTeen creates opportunities whereby members can share their experiences with other young people who know what it is like to deal with cancer, so that they don’t have to go through the experience alone. They provide one-on-one counselling, professional group counselling workshops, self-development and leadership opportunities, recreational activities, national and regional support groups, palliative grants, funeral grants and much more. www.canteen.org.nz
