Maori Television Supports the Free-to-Air Launch of National Indigenous Television in Australia

Maori Television is proud to support the free-to-air launch of National Indigenous Television (NITV) in Australia. NITV will begin broadcasting free-to-air from 12.00pm, 12 December 2012, delivering content about indigenous Australians to all Australians for the first time.

Maori Television will broadcast the outdoor launch celebration from Uluru in the Northern Territory; live from 2.00pm – 4.00pm (NZT) and the sunset concert featuring some of Australia’s best indigenous talent live from 10.00pm - midnight (NZT).

Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather says: “This is a very special occasion for our fellow indigenous broadcasters, who like ourselves are committed to sharing, promoting and strengthening their unique culture.”

As members of the World Indigenous Television Broadcast Network (WITBN), Maori Television and NITV enjoy a strong collaborative relationship. NITV channel manager Tanya Denning says: “We’ve really felt the spirit of support from the indigenous broadcasting community, and in particular Maori Television.”
