Museum Art Hotel owner offers
Hertz Sevens fans cash incentive for creative
costumes.
Costume planning for the capital's
biggest sporting event of the year, the Hertz Sevens, will
step up a notch with Museum Art Hotel owner and arts patron
Chris Parkin again funding a $30,000 costume
competition.
The Museum Art Hotel Costume Catwalk, in association with The Dominion Post, returns for a second year and will take place on the stadium concourse during the tournament from 1pm – 2.30pm on 1 & 2 February 2013, with the winners announced on the field on Saturday night.
“The competition was a huge success last year with more than 600 people strutting their stuff on the catwalk over the two days, and I feel it’s important to bring it back for the fans again. Costumes have become fundamental to the success of the tournament and a fantastic amount of work goes into creating them. It’s definitely worth celebrating,” said Mr Parkin.
“Working together with the Dominion Post as joint sponsor will ensure the Competition gets the publicity it deserves. As well as celebrating the costumes, our aim is to encourage fans to arrive earlier at the stadium, improving the atmosphere right from the start”.
This year there will be five costume categories – best male, best female, best group, best couple and best creative Wellington, plus an overall winner receiving a grand prize of $10,000. Last year’s supreme winner went to ''the Lego group'' from Palmerston North.
"While the Hertz Sevens has done much to enhance
Wellington's reputation as a vibrant and friendly city, it
is the fans and their innovative costumes that have
transformed this rugby tournament. And this is my way of
giving back to the fans and recognising the effort they put
into producing creative and wacky outfits,” said Chris
Parkin.
Contestants will have the opportunity to register
for the Museum Art Hotel Costume Catwalk from 3 December
right through to the start of the tournament by visiting www.hertzsevens.co.nz/competitions.
