We are pleased to present the opening of painting exhibition “To Walk, To See, To Breathe”By Yukari Kaihori, on view from late February 2013 at Thistle Hall Gallery. This exhibition is Yukari’s second solo show in Wellington, following a successful one-person exhibition last year.“To Walk, To See, To Breathe”presents some 25paintings completed in the pastyear. Theseinclude an extensive abstract landscapeseries, all rendered in Yukari’s signature dots shapes and water-color-like contemporary use ofoil paint.

Using oil paint like water color, she tells visual stories, often reconstructing scenes she encounters in the forests and mountains. The captured sceneries go through metamorphosis: the environment we live in is fragile and ephemeral in nature. Her approach to image-making negotiates a balance between the time and physicality of the worlds.

Yukari is originally from Japan. She studied Studio Art at University in Oregon. She interned in New York under artist, Sigrid Burton, before returning to Japan for several years. She went onto University of the Arts, London to expand the knowledge in mix painting media as well as ceramics. In recent years, she has chosen Wellington to be the base for her studio as the city's surrounding nature attract and inspire her deeply.
