NEWS RELEASE –FRIDAY 15th February 2013

WOMAD The World’s Festival 2013 Compilation
ALBUM RELEASE

WOMAD The World’s Festival 2013 Compilation brings together a magical tasting plate of the magnificent array of artists appearing at the WOMAD Festival in New Plymouth March 15-17, 2013.

The Womad 2013 Compilation kicks off with a treat from Salif Keita off his new release album Talé produced with tango master Phillpe Cohen-Solal of Gotan Project.

Next up is a trip to Tajikstan with The Alaev Family and their now B-Net radio favourite ‘Boe Boe’.

Zip across the globe to Brooklyn and the afro-beat rhythms of Antibalas. Taking the roots-reggae back across the globe & mixing with Cuban influences is Amparo Sanchez. Nor’west we are lead to the highlands of Scotland and the recent winners of the BBC2 Folk Award for Best Group, LAU, who take traditional folk ideals and blend them into a modern context.

The explosive energy of Serbian Goran Bregovic follows with his ‘Cocktail Molotov’ which is rounded out nicely by the hip hop Jazz fusion energy of Womad UK crowd favourites The Correspondents.

Across the sea to Southern Italians, Nidi D’Arac who mash rural tradition with rock, electronica and beats. Modern day Mozart, Jordi Savall feeds the soul with a wedge of his Celtic works before moving to the complex culture of Norway and Mari Boine renown for mixing in jazz and rock into the yoiks of her native Sami people.

Over 9000 kilometers away in Colombia, LA-33 deliver a fiery rumba number ‘La Rumba Buena’. Grammy winner and jazz legend Hugh Masekela follows with an offering from his latest album Playing @ Work. And the only artist not appearing at the NZ festival, Australian Mia Dyson delivers her singer songwriter style.

The gorgeous Savoy Family Cajun Band serve up a slice of Louisiana in ‘Sugar Bee’. 2013 Grammy winner and reggae legend Jimmy Cliff adds an offering from his award winning album ‘Rebirth’ to the buffet.

And for dessert –your tastebuds are bound to be comforted by our very own Fly My Pretties. Their soulful and gritty full sound is the perfect ending to a very long O.E. of musical delectation.
