Even bigger 2013 South Island Endurance Series

Even bigger 2013 South Island Endurance Series

The South Island Endurance Racing Drivers Club (SIERDC) have announced an exciting 4 round calendar for their 2013 season which will include a visit to the magnificent new complex at Highlands Motorsport Park, Cromwell.

The upcoming series will consist of 4 rounds, in keeping with their tradition of holding one round at each of the South Island permanent race circuits. “Whilst it was rumored we would drop one round to retain a 3 round series that was never the case” said SIERDC Secretary Chris Dunn. “The South Island circuits have supported us back when our series wasn’t so strongly supported, so we had no intention of deserting them now the series is back on a high.”

The series will visit Teretonga Park, Invercargill for the opening round on 21 September 2013. Round Two will take place at Powerbuilt Ruapuna, Christchurch on October 5. The series then moves to Round Three at Levels Raceway, Timaru on 19 October. With the Round four Grand Finale at Highlands Motorsport Park, Cromwell on 9 & 10th November 2013 where the series will support the Australian GT Series’ sole New Zealand round. “The opportunity to hold an additional round at Highlands will be awesome” says Dunn “it is the round of the Australian GT Series and Highlands official opening race meeting, so it will just be a huge event.”

The Series has separate races over both 1 hour & 3 hour distances and within each race there are 5 separate racing classes being, Class 4: 0-1600cc, Class 3: 1601-2000cc, Class 2: 2001-3500cc and class 1: 3501cc and over, but also has a GT class for the Porsche GT3’s, Ferrari, V8 Supercars and other exotic cars in the field. “The series format works really with separate 1hr & 3hr races and individual classes within each race, so there really is something for everyone” Dunn said “In 2012 we had over 75 cars compete with us from early 1300cc Toyota Starlets through to the brand new Ferrari 458 and drivers ranging from as young as 15 to nearly 80 years old, that just proves that it really is a series that everyone and anyone can participate in”

Now the dates have been locked in, the Series is working on a prize package for 2013, and thanks to the support of its family of sponsors has given away close to $100,000 worth of prize money & prizes over the past 2 seasons. There is also much talk & speculation of what new and exciting cars that we will see in the series and already there are drivers that have purchased newer cars & other cars that have changed hands.

Even though the Series is still months away, both SIERDC and the circuits have committed to these dates so that competitors can plan with confidence for the Series. The Club provides a well promoted series that is very well supported by competitors and SIERDC are also working with MSNZ to again become a sanctioned series.

Competitors can register their interest by contacting the series secretary, Chris Dunn, via e-mail at sierdc@xtra.co.nz or phone 021-107-9293. Any potential competitors, crews and supporters are welcome to be added to the clubs e-mailing list by simply sending an e-mail to the above address, or by subscribing to the Clubs facebook page at www.facebook.com/sierdc
