New release fanfare
Two years on from their internationally acclaimed, Taite-finalist, self-titled debut, Beastwars return on 19th April 2013 releasing Blood Becomes Fire with a very special Record Store Day performance at Real Groovy records in Auckland on April 20th. Described as "a mongrel mix of Kyuss, Neurosis, and the mighty Godflesh..." (NZ Herald) and playing "heavy tunes for heavy times" (ALARM), the Wellington-based sonic soothsayers utilise the chaos that engulfs our world as ammunition for their defiant howls into the abyss. In 2011, Beastwars first album debuted at #15 on the NZ Top 40 charts, was shortlisted for the Taite Music Prize, was nominated twice at 2011's New Zealand Music Awards winning Best Album Artwork and was a finalist for BestRock Album. A local craft brewery even acknowledged the band's achievements by naming a beer in their honour. Following the release of Blood Becomes Fire, Beastwars will tour New Zealand, and for the first time, Australia supporting John Garcia’s’ post-Kyuss band Unida. There are limited edition vinyl pre-order and merchandise bundles available now at www.bloodbecomesfire.com - although the pre-ordered red and gold vinyl has already sold out! There are still black vinyl copies available.

Featured label
Label: Fishrider Records

Artists include: Opposite Sex, The Shifting Sands, The Puddle

Recent releases: 'Opposite Sex' by Opposite Sex, 'Feel' by The Shifting Sands, 'Secret Holiday/ Victory Blues' by The Puddle

Established in 2006.

Brief history and/or philosophy:
Fishrider started up to release an album no-one else would. Then followed 4 albums by Flying Nun Records survivors The Puddle, an extraordinary debut by ex-Gisborne trio Opposite Sex and also the debut by 21st century 'Dunedin sound' trio The Shifting Sands. We describe what we do as 'Psych-pop, No Wave & whatever takes our fancy from below the underground'. However, as our albums are played and sold all around the world we have not been very successful at remaining below the underground. Fishrider Records is 'music arts & crafts' rather than 'music industry' - it's small-scale production of specialist not-very-commercial unpopular pop music for a wordwide audience still fascinated by strange music from New Zealand.

Recent achievements: In 2012 we arranged a UK release and distribution for the self-titled debut album by Opposite Sex, in conjunction with a like-minded small independent UK label who also sells our other releases there. The album enjoyed good radio play on BBC 6Music in the UK and also made it into the CMJ Top 200 in North America on the back of strong radio play on the college radio/ non-commercial network.
