Judy Bailey helps make a WORLD of difference for the MDA

The Muscular Dystrophy Association are proud to once again be supported by Judy Bailey for its annual bow tie appeal (16-24 March). Judy will appear with MDA member, nine year old Nicholas Brockelbank who has Muscular Dystrophy. Judy will also be the voice of the national radio and print campaign which the MDA hopes will bring greater awareness to these rare conditions.

The MDA uses the image of a bow tie to demonstrate the difficulties our members face doing many everyday tasks. The exclusively designed bow tie pins are available in all WORLD stores, as well as ASB branches nationwide for a gold coin donation during bow tie week.

Chris Higgins of the MDA says; "people often ask, what the relevance of the bow tie is? If you've ever tried to tie one, you'll soon realise it is a task that requires skill, dexterity and perseverance. What appears to be simple is in fact, quite difficult. The Muscular Dystrophy Association believes it is an activity that can readily demonstrate the difficulties and frustration that neuromuscular conditions can generate".

Muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular conditions are unpredictable and incurable. They can affect anybody, at any age. These disabling conditions are usually genetic and sometimes occur more than once in a family, however often there is no family history.

It's simple to help this bow tie week, text 'bowtie' to 4483 to donate $3, call 0900 426 98 to make a $15 donation or go to www.mda.org.nz to donate securely online or find out more.
