Auckland Designers Join Forces At Wellington Fashion Week
Auckland labels State of
Grace and Vaughan Geeson, are
venturing south of the Bombay’s to take to the runway
together at Wellington Fashion Week next week.
The two brands will
present a joint Boutique Group show at
midday on Saturday 6th
April, in the Wellington Fashion Week Show Room,
Odlin's Plaza, showcasing their new in-store AW 13
collections.
“We’ve been stocked in
Wellington since the early days of the label. In fact it’s
where we found our very first wholesale
account back in
1993, so I have a lot of affection for my customers there
and I’m looking forward to treating them to a great
show,” says State of Grace designer Sherilyn
Catchpole.
Geeson, who began his label in 2008, agrees that Wellington has a strong connection with the label.
“I’m excited to be presenting my collection in the capital alongside State of Grace as part of the Wellington Fashion Week schedule. Our following there is getting stronger each season and I knew this event would be the perfect opportunity to connect with my existing customers and also find more.”
State of Grace’s Winter 13 range is entitled The Tale of the Regal Rose and is directly inspired by the grandeur and beauty of the rose.
Floral references are strewn throughout the collection, from petal shaped collars to the rich mix of print.
The collection is an updated take on 1950’s proportions; with emphasis on the waist and sleek tailoring, mixed with lighter unstructured pieces, creating Catchpole’s take on a contemporary Winter wardrobe - a long lasting style that is also the collection’s greatest strength.
In contrast, it was the 60’s retro vibe of Rowan Joffe’s 2010 Brighton Rock, (the film of the classic Graham Greene novel) that inspired Vaughan Geeson’s Winter 13 collection.
Fabric and print choices stem from the 1960’s Northern UK setting, a hounds tooth wool in subtle grey tones features as the “ultimate 60’s English fabric” and micro floral chiffon in orange and blue, so evocative of the time. Colour blocked knit twinsets, have a modish monochrome look, as does the use of a witty star print used to contrast with strongly feminine elements such as his custom rose tattoo print, a push/pull of good and bad girl.
“The women I have always have in mind, no matter what the theme is, like the clothes themselves - colourful and textured, vibrant and eclectic,” he says.
