Young People to Make a Difference

Young People to Make a Difference

Wellington, New Zealand, 25th March 2013 ˆ Youthline volunteers have been changing lives for over 40 years. Every year, young people from Wellington join the training programme to become phone counsellors. This year has seen the biggest intake ever and the service is looking for more people to join up.

Youthline Trustee Tim Antric said „it‚s fantastic to have so many people joining the team but we need more. Volunteers are the life blood of Youthline, just a text or phone call away from any young person needing to talk‰. But its not just volunteer phone counsellors that the service needs.

Youthline is looking for people to volunteer in raising awareness of their services, managing the website, and helping to raise money to keep the service going. Every year Youthline volunteers support thousands of young people from across the region.

The biggest event in the Youthline year is the annual street appeal on 9th May 2013. Volunteers are also needed from 7.30am to 6pm to collect donations across the region.

Anyone can volunteer to support Youthline. Volunteers help out in Eva‚s Attic used clothing boutique (evasattic.co.nz), work on the phones, manage the website, attend community events and help keep the organisation going. To join the Youthline team, email them on commswgtn@youthline.co.nz or sign up at http://bit.ly/VolunteeratYouthline.

To find out more about Youthline in Wellington, visit Youthline.co.nz/wellington. Anyone needing support should phone 0800 37 66 33 or freetext 234. The service is available 24/7 365 days a year.
