City
Gallery is lifting Len Lye’s films out of the gallery and
into Civic Square for an evening of fizzing art and moving
music, Lye in the Square.
A selection of Lye’s bright and colourful films will be projected onto a large screen outside City Gallery and accompanied live music from jazz students of Te Kōki, the New Zealand School of Music.
Autumn is approaching, so we recommend you rug up and bring a blanket, a cushion, or a chair to sit on, a thermos of hot tea, as well as your families, grandparents, girlfriends, and anyone else you can snuggle with to keep warm. This will be a special evening for anyone who enjoys the work of Len Lye, one of New Zealand’s most internationally influential artists. The Gallery will be open until 9pm so you can visit all our exhibitions, including Len Lye: Kaleidoscope.
The films will be screened just outside City Gallery, and if it is raining or too windy, the event will move inside the Gallery.
Lye in the Square is brought to you by City
Gallery Wellington in partnership with The
Film Archive, Wellington City Council, Te Kōki
New Zealand School of Music, the Len Lye Foundation, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and with
support from AV Services Ltd.
