V8 Supercars superstars hit Queen Street
V8 Supercars fans will get an opportunity to meet and greet the stars of the ITM 400 Auckland on Thursday 11 April at a series of Pit Stops along Queen Street.
Ford, Holden and newcomers Nissan and Mercedes will be represented at four inner city locations including Queen Elizabeth Square, Corner of Queen and Customs Sts, Fort St and Vulcan Lane.
A field of over 20 drivers will be available to sign autographs and provide photo opportunities.
Top flight New Zealand drivers Shane Van Gizbergen, Fabian Coulthard, Jonny Reid and Scott MacLaughlin will all be present.
“This a rare opportunity for V8 Supercars fans to get to meet and speak with the drivers first hand. There’ll be some diehard fans amongst them I’m sure, Pukekohe in particular has a unique motorsport pedigree,” says Jennah Wootten, ATEED (Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development) Manager Major Events.
The Pit Stops will feature grid girls, car racing simulators and a special screening of the 50 years of racing marking Pukekohe Park Raceway’s anniversary (1963 – 2013).
“We're anticipating a big turnout, in particular for fans supporting Nissan and Mercedes this year,” says Ms Wootten.
Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom, Alex Davison, David Reynolds, Tim Blanchard and Jonny Reid will line up at Pit Stop one located on Queen Elizabeth Square, opposite the Britomart Transport Centre.
Jamie Whincup, Craig Lowndes, Russell Ingall, Garth Tander, James Courtney, Alex Premat and Scott McLaughlin will line up at Pit Stop two located on the corner of Queen and Customs Street.
Rick Kelly, Todd Kelly, Michael Caruso, James Moffat, Shane van Gisbergen (NZ), Jonathon Webb, Tony D’Alberto and Jason Bright will line up at Pit Stop three on Fort Street.
Lee Holdsworth, Tim Slade, Maro Engel, Fabian Coulthard (NZ), David Wall, Dean Fiore and Scott Pye will line up at Pit Stop four on Vulcan Lane.
The Pit stops will run from 11am to 2pm on Thursday 11 April. They are likely to be popular, so fans are advised to be early and expect some delays.
