Local Support Bands Announced


Six60’s Hamilton show on Saturday April 13 at The Founders Theatre has now sold out. This is the sixth show in the band’s 10 date nationwide Tour to sell out.

Meanwhile Six60, recently confirmed to play at Glastonbury in June, have announced the full list of local support artists opening each show this month:

All artists/bands were chosen by Six60 to open the shows after the band teamed up with theaudience.co.nz to run a local support band search for each of the 10 shows on the Tour.

Theaudience.co.nz received a total of 211 entries from emerging artists, bands and hopefuls across New Zealand.

“The band took the job of choosing the local supports really seriously, we were all impressed with the calibre of the artists and bands we’ve listened to. There is some great emerging talent in New Zealand!”

This is the last Tour for the band in a while as they head to Berlin in May, where they will be based for a few months to release their multi platinum selling album in Europe.

SHORT BIOS ON EACH WINNER AS TAKEN FROM THEAUDIENCE.CO.NZ

Name UL (aka Emanuel Psathas), is a 16-year-old aspiring hip-hop artist who loves making music. He likes to get on the lyrical side of his music's as he feels it gives Name UL its authenticity. Callum (Element.X) and Jayde (Mjuzik) come from very different musical backgrounds. Callum, a hip-hop artist/songwriter from Hastings, New Zealand and Jayde, a music producer from Wellington, New Zealand, came together through mutual appreciation of each other’s music. This lead to Jayde showing Callum a beat that kicked off their relationship as a musicalduo. The music that they now create together is upbeat positive and a Genre all of it’s own. Haumoana Sound System a.k.a. Hmn Samples is a 5-piece group from Haumoana Hawke's Bay. HSS is a5 piece group consisting of Bmc, Laz, Messy Jay, Thomas Barker and DJ Hurricane.
Back in 2009, in the seaside village of Haumaona, HSS started producing underground hip-hop tracks out of Messy Jay's sleep out. Once thelocals caught wind of these songs there was no turning back! West Coast Fruit Co is a sound artist/ collective creating lush dark dance tracks spanning many genres. The focus is melodic, layered late-nite listening anddark journeys down the less travelled paths of electronica. Based in Mount Manganui, PleasePlease is Ryan Mulligan and Antony Jeffaries.
The old school friends reconnected last year when Anthony returned from studying music in the States. Having played in various high school rock bands over the years, the duo quickly discovered they were both into dance music. Christchurch talent, Laura Hunter, 20, is a fresh-faced singer-songwriter on the rise for 2012. Having released her first single ‘Don’t Be Afraid To Love’ produced by Auckland-based producer, Lukas Kelly. Hunter began playing her own acoustic live gigs at venues in Christchurch late 2011, before collaborating with her producer and experimenting with the sound for her album. She has won numerous awards, released three new albums in the last two years and toured the world extensively as both an MC and live act.
