V8s fans set to say ‘hello pork pie’

V8s fans set to say ‘hello pork pie’

Hungry V8 Supercars fans will be able to refuel at this weekend’s ITM 400 Auckland with the help of Kiwi-owned and operated company Jesters Pies, which has created two special edition pies for the occasion.

Three Jesters sites along the Fan Trail from Pukekohe’s train station to the race track will offer piping hot hearty pies to thousands of fans, including the ‘V8 Mate’ – featuring New Zealand wild pork, watercress and bacon on a bed of kumara mash; and the ‘V8 Brekkie’ – a combination of classic cooked breakfast ingredients including bacon, egg and baked beans.

In keeping with Jesters’ tradition, the special edition pies’ puff pastry tops will have unique brands – V8 and B8.

Jesters’ spokesperson Grant Rawlinson says the idea for extra Jesters sites – including mobile pie vans – and special edition pies was the brainchild of Jesters Pukekohe operator Steve Waterman, and was swiftly embraced by head office.

“We all got together with our resident chef and brainstormed the development of special pies to appeal to V8 fans, bearing in mind they tend to be classic petrol heads who undoubtedly love a good meaty pie.

“What better to go with a day of roaring V8s and high-octane action than genuine wild Kiwi pork or a cooked brekkie, all for five bucks a pop?,” says Grant Rawlinson.

“We know a lot of fans will be on the road or public transport early to ensure they get a great place on the hill at Pukekohe, and will be in need of some good Kiwi sustenance. We’re sure our pies and a fresh coffee will spin their wheels.”

Jennah Wootten, Manager Major Events at ATEED (Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development), says it is brilliant to see Jesters Pies’ innovative and fun approach to the return of the V8 Supercars to Auckland.

“Jesters is just one of the many local businesses getting behind the V8 Supercars ITM 400 Auckland. They recognise and are excited about the opportunities provided by an event which is going to have major economic benefits to the Auckland region for the next five years.”
