Community Focus for Haier Pulse in Palmerston North

The Haier Pulse is taking its first game against a New Zealand side, the Ascot Park Southern Steel, out to the region for Sunday’s round 4 clash.

“We are looking forward to going to Palmerston North, where we’re always made to feel very welcome and it gives us a great opportunity to play in our region,” explained Haier Pulse Head Coach Robyn Broughton. “We always get lots of support at the Manawatu Arena from the local netball fans, so we’re anticipating a good crowd.

“Some of the girls are going up early on Saturday to do some coaching sessions and workshops with local young netball players. We feel that it gives us a chance to get really involved in netball in the Manawatu,” she said.

Over 60 aspiring young netball stars will take part in shooting clinics at Vautier Park. Camilla Lees, Donna Wilkins, Caitlin Thwaites, Victoria Smith and Paula Griffin will offer their expert tips to the young shooters.

At the same time, over 90 children will attend sessions on ‘My Journey and Tips for Success’ being held at Te Manawa with captain Katrina Grant, vice captain Joline Henry, Liana Leota, Daya Wiffen and Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit.

Having taken the lead throughout all four quarters, Broughton was obviously delighted with Monday night’s win. “We played against a very good team when we faced the New South Wales Swifts. The win will certainly give us a lot of confidence going forward to our next game against the Southern Steel.”

Like the Haier Pulse, the Steel has won one game from three so far, but Broughton is taking nothing for granted. “We are well aware of their new 6ft 7inch goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler who we have to try to shut down, so there’s a lot of through court work we have to do so that it works well for us.”

Sunday’s game against the Ascot Park Southern Steel takes place at Manawatu Arena, at 7.20pm. There are now limited tickets available through Ticket Direct at www.ticketdirect.co.nz, so if you haven’t already purchased get in fast.
