16/04/2013 - The Netball Mainland Zone Board is delighted to announce the appointment of Brigit Hearn to the CEO role for the Netball Mainland Zone.
Hearn will be tasked with the delivery of both Community and High Performance Netball at all levels throughout the upper half of the South Island including the ANZ Championship EasiYo Tactix team.
Hearn comes to Netball Mainland after a decade with Harness Racing New Zealand as the Planning and Operations Manager which also encompassed the Human Resources Manager position.
In all, Hearn brings to the CEO role, 20 years experience in marketing, business development, sports administration and governance for and including the New Zealand Racing Board and New Zealand Lotteries Commission.
She has also been one of five appointees for the Minister of Racing’s ‘Racing Safety Development Fund’, a former Director of New Zealand Cricket and the New Zealand Equine Industry Training Organisation.
Hearn says she’s excited to take up the challenge of leading Netball Mainland forward.
“I am incredibly passionate about seeing netball in this Zone continue to go from strength to strength. I am committed to fulfilling the vision of the Board and helping bring netball in Mainland back to its rightful place.”
Hearn is looking forward to working with the many netball centres within the Mainland Zone and one of her priorities is to continue to build on stakeholder relationships while ensuring financial sustainability.
“I understand the challenges faced by not-for-profit organisations and in my previous roles I’ve been able to build and engage a wide variety of stakeholders including volunteers and sponsors. Also having lived all of my life in the South Island, I have a network of contacts in the wider business community.”

Netball Mainland Board Chair Anne Marett says Hearn’s appointment comes at an exciting time as the newly formed zone-based structure moves into the next phase.
“We are thrilled with Brigit’s appointment and we know her experience in delivering positive outcomes in her previous position will transfer over into what we’re trying to achieve here at Netball Mainland.”
“We’ve got the structures in place and with Brigit on board we can now focus on taking Netball Mainland to the next level.”
