Buskers and Bargains Combine on May 4th

Buskers and Bargains Combine on May 4th

If it’s a bargain you’re after then Wanganui’s premiere sale event, ‘Wanganui on Sale’ is a day you don’t want to miss. On Saturday May 4th 32 participating businesses will be offering great discounts for one day only. “We timed the sale to coincide with the weekend before Mother’s Day this year,” says Mainstreet Marketing Manager Elise Goodge, “that way people can take the opportunity to get a Mother’s Day gift at a great price.”

To make this year’s sale extra special Mainstreet Wanganui have coincided it with a brand new event called ‘The Great Busk Off’. “We wanted to make this year’s sale more festive so we came up with the idea for the ‘Busk Off’ to bring the street to life and showcase local talent.” ‘The Great Busk off’ is a busking competition with 15 local musicians signed up to compete for the prize of ‘favourite busker.’ To vote for your favourite simply purchase tokens at Majestic Square, between 11am and 2pm on May 4th, for 50 cents each and put them in the hat of your favourite. The busker with the most tokens at 2pm wins $1000.

“There are many different age groups and levels of experience represented by the buskers who have registered so it will be really interesting to see who wins.” Buskers will be stationed along Victoria Avenue and Ridgway Street and Mainstreet will have a map of all sites available at Majestic Square on the day for those intrepid enough to visit them all. “It’s important that everyone get a fair crack at winning so we encourage everyone to take a stroll and see them all, plus you might nab a bargain in the process.”

Mainstreet has also set aside May the 4th as the launch date for their brand new shopping app. “The shopping app is free to download from the app store and contains a list of all CBD businesses and their opening hours; some businesses have also paid for their listing to include a click to call function so you can contact them easily from the app.” The app has been developed by local design firm Sunya, who specialise in creating apps for I Phone and Android phones and have been busy creating apps for overseas companies. “It is great that we have this expertise available to us right here in Whanganui.” Elise says.
