Want to Make a Difference?

Wellington, Monday May 6th, 2013 –Youthline is currently recruiting for its Youth Development Programme starting on May 31.

The free programme aims to increase confidence, provide job opportunities and develop new friendships for young people, via a variety of team activities and creative projects that will provide challenges and opportunities for attendees to develop key life skills.

Fifteen to twenty young people are selected for the programme. Applicants must be aged between 15 to 18 on 1st March, 2013.

The programme starts with a weekend camp 31st May – 2nd June at Silverstream Camp in Lower Hutt, then with twelve fortnightly sessions, starting Tuesday 4th June from 4:30 – 7:30pm, based at Evolve in the James Smith building in central Wellington. There are also four weekend day trips that include fun activities such as outdoor adventure courses or barista training, and a weekend stay at Tapu Te Ranga Marae in Island Bay.

All activities will be supported by four youth workers and Youthline Wellington’s youth development co-ordinator.

There will be a graduation ceremony at the conclusion of the programme in November, and graduates will be given the opportunity to be further involved in Youthline, by working in the community or training to be a counsellor (once they’re 18). Graduates from the 2012 programme are in the process of forming a Youth Advisory Group with Youthline Education Coordinator Ellen Anderson and Youth Worker Chloe Bisley-Wright.
