Wedding Show proves to be a Big Day for help planning your Big Day!

Planning your big day can be a harrowing experience. With so much to organise (and usually limited help from the Groom-to-be) it can all be rather daunting. Coming to the rescue last weekend was the inaugural Southern Lakes Wedding Show, held at Skyline Queenstown.

Some 365 brides, accompanied by over 400 guests, eagerly checked out each of the 45 booth displays on offer during Saturdays show. From intricate and delightful flower arrangements to the decadent and extravagant cake designs, there was an abundance of displays showcasing the best in Wedding options for the curious attendees.

Southern Lakes Wedding Show organiser Jo Brown said the show was a great success, which was down to the variety of booth displays and the stunning location.

“The show had everything any would-be Bride needs to plan her big day. You could organise everything from your Hen’s Party to the luxurious accommodation you deserve on your wedding night. It was all on display and all at the most stunning location high above Queenstown” said Ms Brown.

Central to the Wedding Show, and any wedding for that matter, is the dress itself. The numerous brides-to-be were not disappointed thanks to the Bridal Fashion Show, which was delivered in style by Monarch (Model Agency, Queenstown & Auckland) and showcased a diverse array of gowns from couture designers, such as Shika Braddock from La’ Shika Bridal Boutique (Wellington) to local designers and bridal stores from Christchurch to Invercargill. With a fresh dusting of snow, the Remarkables provided the perfect backdrop to this stunning ‘High Tea’ themed show.

Matt Wong, General Manager of World Travellers Queenstown, echoed the positive feedback of attendees and said that as an exhibitor the show was a great success. “The quality of the venue, exhibitors, sponsors and the professionalism of the outstanding organising team has put the Southern Lakes Wedding Show in a class of its own”.

Mr Wong went on to state that he highly recommends the show for both guests and exhibitors, with World Travellers Queenstown committed to exhibiting again. “We will definitely support this event next year” said Mr Wong.

This sentiment was echoed by Amy Green, who exhibited both Hush Spa and Heaven Hair at the event. “We weren’t sure what to expect prior to the event, but we were flat out on the day and it was so successful we are already thinking of what to do next year” said Amy. Amy puts the success down to variety and price: “The mix of exhibitors was great and the comments we got from guests is that it was excellent value for money”.

But what of the soon to be married men in attendance? Were they dragged kicking and screaming to the show? Certainly not. And that is all because of the ‘Man-Zone’! They could escape and enjoy a pint of Speights in the Southern Man themed shed, feast on a sausage sizzle and even get a massage or have fun playing PlayStation.

Ms Brown elaborates, “We accept a Wedding Show may not instantly appeal to the men out there, so we created a special area just for them. Judging by the happy faces in the Man-Zone, next year it will probably be a case of men dragging the women along to the show!”

And the good news is the Southern lakes Wedding Show will be back next year. The date is yet to be confirmed, but after the success of this year’s event it has already been confirmed it will run again!

If that wasn’t good enough news, then we have to mention Janice Keenan of Gore. Janice won the ultimate wedding package which every attendee was entered into the draw for. Valued at over $20,000 and including everything from venue hire at Skyline to celebrant services, the only problem for Janice will be choosing which one of her five daughters gets to benefit from it!

…..whatever the decision, sounds like Janice will have to come back to the show next year!
