Thistle Hall – What's on in the Hall

Thistle Hall is a vibrant community venue in the heart of New Zealand's cultural capital. We provide a community hall, meeting room and Wellington's only community gallery showcasing a range of artists and crafts people, from the established to the emerging. Thistle Hall is located on the corner of Cuba and Arthur Streets. The shows on at Thistle Hall Community Gallery are run by the artists who hire it.

Life is sweet… and art is too!

We are husband and wife team, Alan and Ellen Hodgetts – local artists who work together under our brand name SweetArts.

'Life is Sweet' showcases our individual works as well as some of our collaborations.

Something for everybody
Our work is multi-disciplinary and the exhibition will feature a range of themes, styles, and media. We will be offering for sale original works, limited edition prints as well as some fun and quirky gifts.

Whilst our individual styles differ, the cohesion in this exhibition comes from our united artistic values. We take our art seriously but not ourselves. We aim to be welcoming and accessible, not elitist or snooty!

Please come along, we look forward to welcoming you.

CONNEXUS | CAROLINE THOMAS

OPEN:
9.30am - 5.30pm Tuesday - Saturday.

'Connexus' is an exhibition of contemporary jewellery by Caroline Thomas, currently in her third year at Whitireia New Zealand studying for a BAppA specialising in jewellery design.

"As a maker I battle daily with technical connections, how to attach objects to the human body in as an aesthetically pleasing and practical way as possible. As an artist I'm also trying to provide solutions for more intangible connections; how does an object or a piece of jewellery make you feel, what meaning/s do you attach to it, how do you (and others) attribute value?

On a personal level, I've come to this jewellery-making business quite late in life. I've discovered that creating my own work gives me more connections to the world at large. I don't believe in any gods and I don't believe that life has any universal meaning but I do believe that the process of making is helping me to make my own connections with a chaotic and random existence."
