The Weekly Revolver
The Weekly Revolver
Hey Ladies!
Another very fun Turns & Berms skills course over the weekend - these courses are awesome and ord on the street is we will run another one in June. Keep an eye on the Revolver.
And also on Saturday was the Monthly MTB ride in Wainui with the AA team. Agnes&Anna, and camp mum Nicole split the group up in to different abilities: some went up to Snails and others did an extended version including Towhai Traverse, Labyrinth, Directa and Beeline Extension. Fun times had by all on these sweet trails!
Mt. Vic super D - podium filled with Revolve chicas!
We've had a couple more response from the ladies about being a Camp Mum, which is fantastic, keep em coming. Below is a bit more info about what's involved with being a camp mum and what the bonuses are, ooh ahhh..
And the Crew has had a very prodcutive meeting last week, preparing for the upcoming AGM (aka Mid winter party), and discussed the following topics of which we'd like to share the outcomes with you all:
- New Crew Members wanted for
2013-2014!
The lovely Bronwyn, Louise and Brigid are
stepping down at the end of our financial year (July 2013)
so we have some spots on the Crew that are open:
'New
kid on the block': looks after memberships
2x 'Mother
Hen': two ‘unofficial’ crew members for coordinating
weekly rides/ camp mums / the magic spreadsheet, ie our
‘Mother Hens’: 1 for Road and 1 for MTB.
If any of these roles have your name all over it and you're keen to get on board please let us know!
- Camp Mum updates
As
most of you know it's always a challenge to get more camp
mums and actually have them lead rides (we're a shy bunch!).
So this was one of our priority topics at the crew meeting
and we've brainstormed how Revolve can reward her Camp Mums
for all their hard work. So far, we've come up with the
following initiatives:
Free skills courses & first aid
courses. From now on, we're offering FREE skills courses and
First Aid training for all ACTIVE camp mums. "Active' means
leading a ride at least once every second month (that's only
once every 8 weeks) and preferably commit to 1 year.
Organise a bike trip away and go for FREE! Yep, if you're an
Active Camp Mum you can organize a Revolve trip away (well,
within NZ that is...) and Revolve will pay your trip
accommodation and transport!
Of course we are open to other suggestions so please pass them on our way or come along to the AGM to discuss in further depth!
- Age limit
on Revolve rides
We’ve been receiving some interest in
younger girls coming along to our rides, wahoo! As much as
we want to be inclusive, we are also aware that Revolve is
focused on encouraging 'women' to ride. We also don't want
to put the responsibility on Camp Mums to look after a young
girl. Thus we have made a new 'policy': weekly rides are for
women over the age of 18. If a younger girl would like to
join us, she will have to be accompanied by an adult female
riding companion. Any questions, please feel free to
contact us :)
Let's Ride!
Thursday Fortnightly MTB
Ride
THIS Thursday 30 May, 6pm
Join a great selection
of enthusiastic Camp mums Faith, Meagan and Teresa for a
sweet night time adventure at Polhill Reserve. Especially
for those ladies out there who recently completed a Turns &
Berms skill course and want to put their new aquired skills
to practice :) This intermediate ride will have options for
a 1.5-2.5 hour ride as they'll split up into a shorter and
longer ride option. Meet at the bottom of Transient (Aro
Street) at 6pm, and make sure you're night lights are
working, and bring a warm layer and some
snacks.
Saturday's Road Ride
- THIS Sat is Queens
B'day wkd
Since it's a long weekend and most of us will
probably hit the road there won't be an organised ride for
this Saturday. If you're hanging around Welly though and
keen for some company and/or have a suggested route, please
share your plans on the Revolve Facebook page.
- Next
Saturdays - preview!
Big plans for next Saturday, so lock
this in to your diaries!
Faith, Franny and Leonie have
got some sweet ride ideas up their sleeves for next
Saturday. With 2 ride options there will be something for
everyone. You can join Faith for a beginner ride around the
bays or join Leonie & Frannie for a ride over the
Akatarawa's to Upper Hutt, then SH2 back to town (72km;
check out map here). This latter option is dependent on
transport arrangements which the camp mums are working on as
we speak, so keep an eye out for final details in next
week's Revolver :)

Other Revolve Fun...

Wednesday 10
July, from 6pm (official AGM at 7pm).
Mark your calendars
for one of the 2 most fun parties of the year (ie the
Revolve Xmas party is hard to beat...).
Besides,

women's cycling revolution. Then we'll vote in our new crew
members and hand-over at the upcoming AGM (followed by a
'retreat' on Friday 12 & Sat 13 July, sweet!). And of course
this is a great opportunity for all our members to have a
say on all things Revolve and perhasp you might have some
suggestions or feedback. More details on venue to
come.

MJ's Dash for Cash fundraising duathlon is
back!
Sunday 14 July, 10am at Makara Peak.
Revolve is
stoked to present the 2nd 'MJ's Dash for Cash'! This fun
off road MTB/RUN duathlon, organised for the first time last
year, raises funds to help MJ get to the mountain running
wolrd champs. Last year over $2k was raised and everyone had
a blast. So we can't wait to do it all over again, this time
for the world champs to be held in Poland in September. And
fingers crossed she'll be elgible to represent New Zealand
instead of the Nehterlands this year (pending on approval of
citizenship application).
Open to gals & boys! Bike, then
Run (see below for routes). Keen beans can do the solo
category, or team up with someone to just do the part you
like doing best!
Costs: $30 solo, $40 per team. Find out
all the details (ie course routes, timeline etc) on the
facebook event page- which is also a great way to find a
buddy to team up with.
Family cycle trip to Cambodia
with Ash!
November 2013
Ash is off to Cambodia with
the amazing folks at Escape Adventures on the newest Family
Cycle Tour in Cambodia! There is still space for one family
in November and your first child will join for FREE! The
family cycle tours follow the same researched cycling routes
as our 'standard cycle tours', but we have reduced the
biking distances and packed the trips full of exciting stuff
to keep the kids engaged. From floating villages and bamboo
trains in Cambodia to elephant orphanages, Tanzanian
classrooms or camping alongside a Maasai family under a
cloudless African sky. Offer applies to our 2013 Family
Tours only. Contact Mandy at
info@escapeadventures.co.nz.
Ride the sweetest trails in
Colorado and Moab
If you fancy escaping winter and
you’ve always wanted to ride in the Mountain Bike Meccas
of Moab and Colorado, USA, then check out what Singletrack
Colorado has to offer. Singletrack Colorado’s owner and
head guide Carl Patton promises the tour contains some of
the best single track riding available anywhere. Our
holidays focus on singletrack riding and generally we ride
for 3-5 hours a day because it’s a long way for Kiwis to
go to Colorado, so we want to make sure you make the most of
it! Carl assures us that the tour is a holiday, not a race,
or a training camp, so there is plenty of time on the rides
for lunch stops, photos, and just taking in the hugeness of
the Rocky Mountains. There are only a few spots left on the
dates of:
July 6 – July 20
July 20 – August
3
August 3 – August 17
See
www.singletrackcolorado.co.nz for more information about the
tours.
Happy riding!
