Winter campaign to lure Wellingtonians to Marlborough
Winter campaign to lure Wellingtonians to Marlborough
and Nelson
Interislander has joined forces with Destination Marlborough and Nelson Tasman Tourism to launch a campaign for people looking to ditch the winter blues for blue sky days in Marlborough and Nelson. The ‘Make a Memory in Marlborough and Nelson’ winter campaign begins today and will run through June and July.
Destination Marlborough’s General Manager, Tracy Johnston, says the campaign offers Wellingtonians a chance to ditch the crowds and the dreary weather for blue sky days in Marlborough and Nelson. “This is a chance for people to relive the memory of their favourite holiday, or plan the ultimate bonding session with mates or family. They can bring their bikes to take on the mighty Queen Charlotte Track or charter a boat to go fishing in the Marlborough Sounds.”
Interislander General Manager Thomas Davis says the basic premise is to drive awareness of the Marlborough and Nelson regions to the Wellington market to encourage more southbound holiday and short-break traffic and to travel there with Interislander.
“The campaign plays on the positives of the Marlborough and Nelson regions, including the world-class wineries, national parks, cycle trails, local galleries and the fact that Nelson has the most sunshine hours of all the major New Zealand centres.
“The campaign is not seasonal specific so we are expecting a flow-on benefit into the spring and summer months with more southbound travel into the Marlborough and Nelson regions,” Mr Davis says.
Nelson Tasman Tourism Chief Executive, Lynda Keene, says the Joint Campaign give Wellingtonians permission to cancel winter and press pause in their everyday busy lives. “The top of the South is home to an amazing winter wonderland at St Arnaud and Rainbow Ski Field and at this time of the year it is the best time to cruise or kayak the Abel Tasman National Park. Golden Bay is the gateway to the Kahurangi National Park and a great place for families to chill out, soak up the organic vibe of the community and breathe. Nelson has it all – 1.6km skywire, great cafes, craft breweries, wineries and great retail outlets for the urban artisan,” she says.
Nelson Tasman Tourism Chief Executive, Lynda Keene, says Nelson has plenty on offer for visitors to the region. “Tourism in Nelson Tasman is fundamental to our community and one of the region's major economic drivers. Abel Tasman Park, Kahurangi, the Nelson Lakes and the parks in Nelson city are all well worth a visit in the quieter winter months when there aren’t so many crowds.”
Interislander’s website will profile activities and accommodation in the Marlborough and Nelson regions, and conversely, both the Marlborough and Nelson websites will be promoting Interislander (and the Interislander booking widget) prominently on their websites for the duration of the campaign.Cruise on into holiday mode now by visiting www.interislander.co.nz
