Red Bull BC One Celebrates 10 Years with the Announcement of the New Zealand Cypher

On Saturday 22nd June, the world’s premier one-on-one B-boy championship, Red Bull BC One, will return to Auckland for the New Zealand cypher. New Zealand’s top B-boys will go head-to-head, battling to claim a spot in Japan’s Asia Pacific Qualifier and the chance to continue on to the world final in Seoul, South Korea.

As one of over 90 cyphers globally, the New Zealand leg in Auckland will see 16 competitors whittled down to just one victor over four intense knockout stages. Competitors will be judged on their style, skill, execution and routine by an expert panel of judges, including Red Bull BC One All Star, Roxrite (USA). Last year’s Asia Pacific Qualifier competitors, Grub d and Akorn, will be hoping to take out the competition. Dominating in the one-on-one battles will be challenging for all competitors.

Since being established 10 years ago, Red Bull BC One has earned a reputation as the premier one-on-one B-boy Championship. From the first global competition held in Switzerland, the community has grown immensely alongside the resurgence of B-Boying culture as a whole.

For B-Boys, fans or anyone that wants a chance to see the top talent battle first hand, the cypher will be free entry, but first come, first served. Open qualifiers will run from 7.00pm – 8.25pm before the finals get underway at 8.35pm, with the triumphant BC One New Zealand Cypher champion being crowned at 10.30pm. The winner leaving with a plane ticket to the Asia Pacific Final in their back pocket and the title of New Zealand’s best one-on-one B-Boy.
