Triple ticket treat for a Wellington weekend
If you are looking for a good reason to visit Wellington at the end of July, we can give you four or five!
For Arts-lovers, 26-28 July will be a dream weekend to travel to the capital and a special 'Triple-Ticket' deal through Ticketek helps make it even more attractive.
In the Performing Arts realm there are three magnificent events with multiple performances that weekend: the classic ballet Swan Lake, a full-scale Verdi opera and an orchestra concert featuring one of New Zealand's top international opera stars. In the graphic Arts, the New Zealand Art Show is being held in the TSB Arena all weekend, and in the culinary and café Arts, Wellington is justly world famous.
The Royal New Zealand Ballet wind up their Vodafone
Season of Swan Lake accompanied by the New Zealand
Symphony Orchestra in the St James Theatre. Russell Kerr's
landmark production of the classic ballet is the centrepiece
of the company's 60th birthday year celebrations and they
complete their Wellington season with performances on Friday
26 and Saturday 27 evenings and a matinee on Saturday
afternoon.

Te
Kōkī New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) presents a
full-scale production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Il
corsaro in the Opera House. This is the 200th
anniversary year of the Opera composer's birth and the
production is a fitting way to honour his genius. Il
corsaro is a tale of high adventure, of pirates and
plunder, nobility and cruelty, true love and impatient
passion and the production features the next generation of
orchestral and operatic 'stars'. The opera is directed by
Sara Brodie and conducted by Kenneth Young, both
professionals with extensive national and international
profiles.

On Sunday afternoon Orchestra Wellington presents Pounamu, a concert conducted by Marc Taddei and featuring Jonathan Lemalu singing Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death. The title of the concert comes from a new collaboration between composer John Psathas and multi-genre musician Warren Maxwell which will be premiered in this performance. http://www.orchestrawellington.co.nz/
“It’s really a mini-Arts Festival,” comments Stephen Gibbs, Events coordinator at NZSM, “and evidence of just how lively the creative sector in Wellington is. To make it even more attractive, RNZB, NZSM and Orchestra Wellington have joined forces to offer a special Triple-Ticket deal for the weekend through Ticketek.
“People who phone in to Ticketek to book seats in each of the Swan Lake, Il corsaro and Pounamu performances will get a 20% discount on the total ticket price AND pay only one transaction fee. All three of these events will be outstanding audience experiences involving some of the very best talent in this country. There are three ballet and two opera performances to choose from along with the Sunday afternoon Orchestra Wellington and Jonathan Lemalu concert. Now, that HAS to be a great reason to be in Wellington for that last weekend in July!”
