Big Screen Symposium Programme Now Live
AUCKLAND, NZ [July 17, 2013] The Big Screen
Symposium is delighted to announce the addition of two award
winning Australian filmmakers to the 2013 line-up –
writer/director Rolf de Heer (Ten Canoes, Bad Boy
Bubby) and score composer Cezary Skubiszewski (The Sapphires,
Red Dog). Both Rolf and Cezary will be presenting
90-minute sessions at this year's Big Screen
Symposium.
Rolf de Heer is a renowned
Australian filmmaker whose films have risen to critical
acclaim and picked up a number of prestigious awards
worldwide. His first feature Bad Boy Bubby won the
Grand Special Jury prize and the International Film Critics
Prize at Venice in 1993, and his captivating narrative
Ten Canoes won the Special Jury Prize in the Un
Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2007.
Cezary Skubiszewski is one of Australia’s leading film composers whose film scores have won numerous awards, including his work on recent films Bran Nue Dae (2009), Red Dog (2011) and The Sapphires (2012), which received critical acclaim at an international level and have seen him win awards from Inside Film and the Film Critics Circle of Australia.
Cezary has also composed music
for a number of adverts, including the Sydney 2000
Olympics, Australian Football Finals, Melbourne 2006
Commonwealth Games, Carlton Draught Big Ad campaign and
the VB Bottle Symphony which became a worldwide
hit.
Cezary and Rolf will join an inspiring
line-up of speakers for this year’s Big Screen Symposium,
including critically acclaimed South Korean director Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Stoker),
award-winning Mexican screenwriter, author, director and
producer Guillermo Arriaga (Amores Perros, 21
Grams, Babel) and award winning Australian writer Andrew Bovell (Strictly Ballroom,
Lantana, A Most Wanted Man).
The programme is now live on the Big Screen Symposium website and includes many distinguished local filmmakers and speakers from White Lies, Top of the Lake, The Weight of Elephants and Mt Zion. There are still more exciting speakers and sessions to be announced in the coming weeks.
