17 July 2013

Winter harbour swim returns for 2013

Lower Hutt's annual winter swim, the Mitre 10 MEGA Polar Plunge, is back for 2013. Scheduled again as part of the exciting line-up at the Petone Winter Carnival, it will take place on Saturday 3 August on the Petone Foreshore.

The Plunge acts as a set off for the Carnival, with over 100 colourfully dressed people expected to sign up to brave the chilly waters and raise money for local charity Wesleyhaven in Naenae.

Entry is open for all ages, and great prizes are up for grabs including best dressed individual (adult and child) and best dressed team. Previous events have featured elaborate costumes such as Pavlova Man, a chicken, Hawaiian Dancers, and Maui's Fish.

The Polar Plunge is generously supported by Mitre 10 Mega Petone, who provide great prizes for 'best dressed' and lots of spot prizes for those who brave the chilly waters.

Everyone who takes part in the Polar Plunge will be asked to donate a gold coin for Wesleyhaven in Naenae to support their services and facilities for elderly. Wesleyhaven will be selling sausages, hot soup and coffee on the beach for both participants and spectators.

Participants are encouraged to register online in advance at www.petonecarnival.co.nz. All online entries received before 5pm Wednesday 31 July will go into a special prize draw which will be drawn on the day.

Registration on the day opens at the Classic Hits Main Stage (next to the Heretaunga Boat Club) at 12pm. Judging and prizes for best dressed begins at 12:30pm, with the swim at 1pm.

The event with be hosted by MCs from Classic Hits 90.1 FM.

For online registration and more info, visit www.petonecarnival.co.nz.
