Future Stars in Training at Unison Age Group Rugby Camps
19 July 2013
Hawke’s Bay rugby stars of the future may have commenced their journey towards a spot in the Magpies, following attendance at the Unison HBRU Age Group camps during the school holidays.
The three-day camps for the Under 14’s, Under 16’s and Under 18’s consist of training sessions followed by trials for the HBRU’s Age Group representative teams.
HBRU Development Officer, Jarvy Aoake, said the camps focus on more than just skills training.
“We take the players through some of the drills and activities they will experience during their rugby careers. The message we send every player home with is to keep focusing on their professionalism, keep working on developing their skills, and to keep setting goals.”
Unison Networks’ Customer Care & Relationship Manager, Danny Gough said it was great to be able to see the Company’s sponsorship benefiting the grass roots of the sport.
“Many of these players would have benefited from Unison’s sponsorship of the junior rugby programme, and it’s great to be able to help them as they take the next step towards representative rugby.”
HBRU U14 Team Manager, Ian Horsefield said the boys had all really enjoyed the experience.
“We’ve had a great few days. It’s my first time attending an age group camp, and it’s been a fantastic experience all around.
“The boys have been through fitness testing, doing sprints using electronic gates, and working on set pieces, just as the Magpies do. It’s been an excellent opportunity for the boys to get to know each other and have some team bonding time before they play tournament rugby.”
The camps began on Monday with the U14’s, and will conclude next Wednesday with the U18’s.
