Nominations sought to acknowledge outstanding youth

Tuesday 23rd July 2013

Nominations are being sought to acknowledge youth aged 13-18 for the Auckland Airport Tamaki Makaurau Youth Awards to be held on the 7th September. The event seeks to recognise youth leadership across eight categories. Past winners have been successful for demonstrating excellence in leadership, mentoring, sports and community safety. This year the event also acknowledges youth health leadership in the areas of tobacco control/quitting, alcohol & drug harm reduction, nutrition & physical activity and demonstrating role modelling and care of children.

Event organiser and public health coordinator at Raukura Hauora o Tainui Rachael Puru is honoured to be part of the event, “It’s a privilege to hear what youth have been up to and to celebrate that. These are our up-and-coming leaders. They are truly inspiring” says Mrs Puru.

Auckland Airport is the primary sponsor of the Awards for the third year in a row and Charles Spillane, Auckland Airport general manager of corporate affairs, says the Airport is delighted to be involved yet again. “At Auckland Airport we feel it is important to celebrate the achievements of our youth and we are thrilled to be able to sponsor the Awards again” says Mr Spillane.

The event is coming to Aucklanders as part of Atamira Maori in the City 6-8 September at Queens Wharf and the Cloud, Auckland City.
