Nelson Celtic Pipe Band Ready to March onto the World Stage!

Band Ready to March onto the World Stage!

There’s more good news for Nelson’s Celtic Pipe Band as the final flourishes are put on its Scottish Cultural Highlight of the year, Saturday night’s Braveheart – The Concert.

The band’s just accepted an invitation to play in Europe early next year.

Pipe Major Bryce Gilchrist says the band will be playing in six cities in Germany in January following an invitation to be part of the annual Musikparade.

He says it’s a fantastic opportunity and will be the band’s first ever overseas trip.

Meanwhile, Braveheart – The Concert is ready to march onto the stage at the Theatre Royal this Saturday night.

The story of William Wallace’s historic fight for the freedom of Scotland reflects the story of Nelson’s Celtic Pipe Band as it’s grown from small beginnings into a fully-fledged, successful competitive unit. Both stories are being brought alive side by side this weekend.

Producer Helen Gilchrist is proud to announce that Angus Graves, a Scottish Laird in his own right, has been secured as narrator for the show which will include a selection of traditional pipe band music, contemporary Scottish music and singing, alongside performances from some of this region’s best young highland dancing talent.

Angus is an old hand on the stage and is currently studying Digital Film and Television production at the New Zealand Broadcasting School.

Helen says although the Celtic Band takes the lead in the performance, Blackwater, a local rock band comprising some pipe band members will also share the stage. Blackwater will inject its own modern flavour into the show with drums and electric guitars joining the mix.

She says the night will also be very special for the youngest member of the cast, four year old highland dancer Takoda Cross, who will be making her stage debut.

But tickets for Braveheart – The Concert are selling furiously and it’s expected the full house sign will go up on the big night.

Tickets for Braveheart – The Concert at the Theatre Royal this Saturday night are available from Ticket Direct, The Theatre Royal and Richmond Mall information desk.
